How Snapchat Is Shaping Social Media

Snapchat is the most valuable American technology company to go public since Facebook. Snapchat was created in 2011 by two fraternity brothers who went to Stanford University. This app is now used by more than 158 million people every day.

Snapchat includes many entertaining and addictive features. These include 'Chat' which lets users send each other messages that disappear within seconds, 'Lenses' which lets users augment their pictures with dog ears and other fun features,  'Filters' which allows users to overlay photos with stickers or images, 'Stories' which allows users to post what they are doing for all their friends to see before it disappears in 24 hours, 'Live Stories' which allows users to send their story and have the whole community watch, 'Discover' which allows users to see news stories and keep up with the latest trends, and 'Memories' which allows users to save a personal collection of photos and videos without them disappearing.

Although Snapchat started out as an app for younger people, more adults have been attracted to it. Now, more than half of all new users in the United States are older than 25 years old.

However, Snapchat is not all fun and games. The fact that chats and photos disappear immediately allow for bullying to happen or for people to take screenshots of inappropriate photos and hold it against someone. More users are using Snapchat as a way to send each other inappropriate images and to talk to each other without having to text or call. This app has made users stop exchanging phone numbers because they just exchange snap's now. I believe that this is the new form of communication and people have increasingly stopped using their text or call buttons to talk to one another and now just use Snapchat as a form of communication.
