Ralph Northam Photo Scandal

Yearbook Photo Scandal- Ralph Northam

The Past Will Haunt You

Ralph Northam Clings to Office

On Friday, February 1, 2019, an image of one person in blackface and another person in a Ku Klux Klan robe was leaked. This image came from Virginia's governor, Ralph Northam's 1984 medical school yearbook. The governor had apologized for being in the yearbook photo but then took it back saying that this photo is disgusting, offensive, and racist and he does not believe he is in the photo.
However, governor Northam did admit that he wore blackface as part of a Michael Jackson costume in the early 1980s.

Northam is now clinging onto his job after some indications that he may not be forced out if he refuses to quit after the release of this racist photo. He has not addressed the calls for his resignation from both sides of the aisle as he emerged from staff and Cabinet meetings. Kirk Cox, the Republican State House Speaker, says he does not have any plans to force Northam out. He did, however, call Northam to resign because Northam might not meet the constitutional provisions for impeachment.

They are now giving Northam some air to think about everything. Protesters have gathered outside of Virginia's statehouse on Monday and called for Governor Northam to resign, but for now, we wait and see who makes the next move.
